Breathedge 2 Resources: Where Every Material Comes From

| Resource | Where it comes from | Used for | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aluminum | Asteroid deposits, extracted with a drill that needs a battery; a few loose nodes in wreckage | Wrench, tools, most early repairs — the single biggest bottleneck | Nodes do not respawn; only vending machines and bins replenish. Store spare stacks in Babe’s purse. |
| Plastic | Dark growths on the ends of cables (hit repeatedly with the Scrap), pipe pieces around the sentry-turret station, sometimes trash cans | Kettle, Cutter, early tools | The most common early soft-lock: crafting the Cutter before the kettle can leave you out of plastic. Bins and cable ends are the fallback. |
| Wires | Inside electrical panels — needs the Probe | Probe, wrench and other tools compete for them | Probe every panel you pass; build a reserve before spending. |
| Electronics | Panels and machines; scarce | Upgrades | One long-playtime review looted “just about everything” and still ran short. |
| Common metal | Small metallic debris first, then barrels, cans and large orange scrap | Converts to refined metal | Small debris stacks fast and leaves inventory room for rarer finds. |
| Refined metal | Crafted from 4 common metal; also harvested from the blue lamps at wire ends and found loose in the frozen area | Gas tank, wrench, drills, better tools | It cannot be unlocked as a recipe early — players who could not craft it found it at the blue lamps. |
| Titanium | Spiky chunks floating in open space; asteroid deposits via drill | Higher-tier tools | Scan for loose spikes before spending drill energy. |
| Rubber → electrical tape | Smash old suitcases | Recipes and maintenance | Tape is the part you notice missing only when a repair needs it. |
| Alkali / alkaline solution | Alkali mole burrows on three asteroids: two behind the train, one near the automatic turret. Kill the mole, then use the Probe on the burrow | Alcohol (with ice and nutrient mineral); the shuttle de-icing loop in the main quest | Respawn is slow or absent — several in-game days without new moles. Treat it as a reserve. |
| Ice → water | Ice blocks broken with the Scrap; carrying too much fills the bag | Water via Kettle Bobby | Chewing dirty ice directly gives a debuff; process it. |
| Food | Food crates, vending machines, bins; rotten apples in the world | Nutri-packs from the Nutri-Pack-O-Mat | Never eat raw finds — poisoning. Vending machines and bins recharge over time; crates may not. |
| Oxyworms | Blue worms floating near the regenerating worm nests on asteroids | Eat for emergency O2; craft purified oxygen and air candles | Nests themselves refill your tank when you hold the interact key. |
| Nutriworms | Fat green worms above the tower wrapped in green growth next to the taxi station | Alcohol (with ice) | Needed for the alcohol achievement; the frozen corpse near the snowman also holds 3 bottles. |
| Batteries | Wreckage; the first large one is in a destroyed luggage compartment near the train (exit, right twice, lower section) | Drills and powered structures | Any battery counts for the hatch quest since 0.8.6. |
| Light bulbs | Unscrewed from fixtures with the Wrench; more in the lower frozen area | Heater repairs (with metal) | “Repair with a light bulb and metal” is the heater prompt. |
| Glass | Windows and fixtures | The first heater repair | — |
| Foam / cardboard / knitted teddy bear | Yellow mats / cardboard stacks / hidden chests | Suit protection at the wardrobe; kettle filter | 4 cardboard + 1 foam passes 100 cold protection. |
| Energy drinks | Vending machines and loot | Skip sleep | A hard-mode player reports never needing to sleep with them. |

Gathering habits that save trips
- Small debris first. Small metallic fragments stack fast and leave room for rarer components; smash barrels and large scrap only when the bag has space.
- Probe every panel. Wires only come out of electrical panels, and the Probe, Wrench and DIY modules all compete for them.
- Process, do not eat. Rotten apples and dirty ice give debuffs raw; bring them to the Nutri-Pack-O-Mat and Kettle Bobby on the train.
- Store in Babe's purse. It took over 250 kg without filling; the train floor does not.
- Treat alkali as a reserve. Three burrow asteroids, slow respawn — save it for alcohol and the shuttle de-icing loop.
Resource FAQ
Do resources respawn in Breathedge 2?
Mostly no. Aluminum nodes do not respawn; alkali moles respawn very slowly if at all. Vending machines and trash cans do recharge over time, and oxyworm nests regenerate.
How do I get refined metal?
Four common metal make one refined metal, and the blue lamps at the ends of wires can be harvested for it early. Loose refined metal also sits in the frozen lower area.
Where is plastic?
The dark growths on cable ends (hit them repeatedly with the Scrap), the pipe pieces around the sentry-turret station, and sometimes trash cans. Craft the kettle before the Cutter so you do not run dry.
